Maternity Care after time in the incubator
When your baby is allowed to leave the hospital after (often a long) time in the incubator, you can request “couveuse nazorg” (specialized care for babies that have been in the incubator). It depends on your supplementary insurance package whether or not this is covered. In case it’s not covered, you have the opportunity to buy hours of this type of care.
Taking care of your baby
The maternity nurse will help you and your partner to adapt to the new situation after your transfer from hospital to your home situation. Caring for your baby at home will certainly be different. Practical issues your maternity nurse can help you with are e.g.: how do I bathe my baby at home? What kind of clothes do I put on my baby when we go outside? Do I have to preheat the stroller? Does my baby still need a warm water bottle?
The maternity nurse will provide you with all the answers. But most importantly: she teaches you how to look at and listen to your baby without all the monitors and alarms, giving you confidence in each other and in your baby by the end of these days.
